Orange Beach bans short-term rentals in residential areas

ORANGE BEACH, AL (WALA) –

Orange Beach city leaders voted to ban short-term rentals in residential areas.

The city council approved the measure by a 5 to 1 vote Tuesday night. According to city spokesperson Ken Grimes, property zoned for residential use will be banned from renting to anyone unless it’s for two weeks or longer.

The measure does not affect beachside condos or properties outside of residential areas. Grimes said the ban will protect residentially-zoned neighborhoods and end the weekly turnover of neighbors.
