Deputies seek person of interest in Bay Villa Apartment homicide

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — New information in the murder of a Foley man. Investigators have named a person of interest and need help finding him.

Stabbed multiple times in his apartment, Jeff Higginbotham’s body was discovered last Tuesday and now investigators want to talk to 35-year-old Nicholas Young who they call their strongest person of interest in the case.

There are a number of reasons why investigators have moved Young to the top of their list of people who may know something about the murder of Higginbotham. "Information involving him kind of developed as we began to investigate and eliminate other people. His name kind of came to the forefront and we went from there," says Captain Steve Arthur with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

According to investigators, Young was released from jail just days before the murder after being arrested in Gulf Shores on a domestic violence charge. "He was out on bond from a domestic violence arrest involving family members that was the latest arrest two or three days prior to our victim being murdered," says Arthur.

After his release, investigators say, he was introduced by a mutual friend to Higginbotham. "He was in jail prior to the homicide and was actually staying with our victim for a few days because he was basically homeless and had nowhere to go. Our victim was gracious enough to let him stay with him for a few days."

Higginbotham’s stolen black Durango has also been connected to Young according to Arthur. "He was identified as the person in the vehicle as the vehicle was being parked in Pensacola and exiting the vehicle." Finally, Nicholas Young has not been seen or heard from since the murder was discovered almost a week ago. "Mr. Young is our strongest person of interest who we would like to talk to."

Young last address is in Gulf Shores, but he is also known to frequent Orange Beach and Pensacola. He also has relatives in Jefferson County.

Police ask if anyone sees him or knows where he is to give them a call at 251-937-0202.
